History
Once upon a time…
.. in time, more precisely in 1986 when Tanum Municipality built the original facility here on the same site where we are today. A year later, the hotel was inaugurated with pomp and circumstance and a new lovely, seaside destination was born, just outside Grebbestad. The hotel contained hotel rooms and a bath, Stora Blå, with a slide.1992… and 1997…
In 1992, ownership transferred from the municipality to private hands, and the same occurred on February 15, 1997, when the Norwegian brothers Roger and Kristian Adolfsen purchased the facility, making TanumStrand their first acquisition here in Sweden.
In 2001, the large Skagerrak event hall was opened, which can accommodate up to 1000 guests at a time.
11 years later, in 2012 , 88 brand new hotel rooms were also inaugurated to meet the high demand among resident guests.
2016 saw the opening of the new Latitud 58°restaurant and the Horisont SPA.
In 2022 and 2023 , almost all 99 cabins, 70 hotel rooms, the entire lobby/bar and the entire reception area were completely renovated. Which was a real boost for a nice atmosphere.
In the fall of 2023, the glazed interior of the DockSide outdoor dining area was renovated. Insulation, heating units, new windows and furnishings were installed so that this part can be used all year round and serves as a really cozy winter garden.
In 2024, the last of the 99 cabins were renovated and the outdoor area at DockSide was given a facelift with a new summer concept in the spirit of a beach club.
In 2025, planning began for 12 new hotel rooms and a 130-square-meter lobby expansion, which was completed in the spring of 2026.
There are also plans for the future to expand even further in order to meet all existing needs, including a new outdoor area in front of the main entrance, more conference rooms, a pool club, and other facilities.
Today, TanumStrand SPA & Resort is still owned by Roger and Kristian Adolfsen.
